Ephemera: Mixed Media Workshop with Joseph Griffo

During this two day workshop painter and mixed media artist Joseph Griffo will bring you through a number of tactile, two dimensional projects that investigate creating with unconventional surfaces, found papers, old pictures, rubbings, transfers, and various other forms of creative mark making. Do something special with your cherished bits from the past or create something new with an interesting array of provided materials.

Tuition: $250 plus $50 materials fee
Instructor: Joseph Griffo
Instructor Bio: Born in Woodstock, New York, Joseph Griffo has spent the last 24 years in Santa Fe, NM making art and studying art theory. His work ranges from contemporary landscapes and figure work to non-objective abstraction. His early years at School of Visual Arts in Manhattan gave him the opportunity to study with renowned artists including Jack Whitten, Stephen Westfall, and Marilyn Minter; great modernists who helped push his explorations of primary process and new inventions in medium. Putting down roots in the southwest has given him much time to hone a connection with rustic, organic materials such as gypsum, wax, terra cotta, resin and graphite.
Notable exhibitions include: 2015 Select Works at City of Mud Grand Opening, Santa Fe, NM, 2011 Mining the Unconscious, Santa Fe Community Gallery; 2008 The William and Joseph Gallery, Santa Fe Solo Exhibition Kings and Queens; and a 2004 Center for Contemporary Arts Group Exhibition entitled White
