The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation is the oldest artist residency program west of the Mississippi. The program has brought hundreds of visual artists, writers and composers to Taos. Many have stayed. This show presents Wurlitzer alumni from the museum collection and illustrates one woman’s influence on 70 years of Taos art and artists. Lynda Benglis: Bird’s Nests

The Bird’s Nests edition is a collaboration between Lynda Benglis, Hank Saxe, and Cynthia Patterson, published by Benefit Print Project. These works examine the relationship of paper and clay: a sculpture originally made by the artist from paper and wire transforms into an edition of “prints” in ceramic. Birds of Appetite: Alchemy and Apparition presents work by Izumi Yokoyama and Tasha Ostrander with a common theme of nature and transformation. Yokoyama’s drawings and installation and Ostrander’s digital Light Jet prints are drawn from stand-alone series by each artist. Judy Chicago collaborated with more than 150 needle workers between 1980 and 1985 to create dozens of images combining painting and needlework that celebrate the birth process—from the painful to the mythical.
