The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation is the oldest artist residency program west of the Mississippi. The program has brought hundreds of visual artists, writers and composers to Taos. Many have stayed. This show presents Wurlitzer alumni from the museum collection and illustrates one woman’s influence on 70 years of Taos art and artists. Known for her dream-like and idyllic imagery, Pop Chalee’s (1906-1993) work quickly caught the attention of the art world and she became one of the most successful artists of her time. Peter Chinni: Inside/Out

Peter Chinni was born in 1928 to Italian immigrants. His artistic journey began at the Art Students League, followed by studies in Rome at the Accademia di Belle Arti and with Cubist sculptor Roberto Melli. Chinni first worked in New York, where his focus shifted from painting to sculpture. Chinni settled in Taos in 2004, where he continues his practice as a sculptor. Throughout his long career he has sought, through abstraction, the vital essence of three-dimensional forms.
